The Edmonton Geological Society presents its first field trip of the year, the Miquelon Lake Geo-walk. Participants will be guided through the Miquelon Lake Provincial Park by Dr. Mark Fenton and John Pawlowicz highlighting the geological history and interesting geological features of the region. This family-friendly walk will include a number of stops with information/discussion on the Quaternary history of the Beaver Hills, the nature and origin of hummocky moraine, the origin of till and the variety and source of glacial erratics, the rise and fall of the Miquelon lakes, the presence and formation of geo-doughnuts, and information on the Aspen Parklands.

We will meet at the NE corner of the parking lot. The walk is about 3 km along bare or grass covered trails through high to moderate relief, hilly terrain. It will take approximately 3 hours. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring their own water. Bug-spray and sunscreen is highly recommended at this time of the year. Washroom facilities are available on site.

Following the geo-walk a BBQ will be held at a group site in the park. Participants are encouraged to bring salads and deserts to share. Cost for the walk and BBQ is $5.00 for Edmonton Geological Society members and $10.00 for non-members. The number of participants is limited to 30; registration and payment must be received to reserve your place; first come, first serve, so don’t wait.
